A compact, efficient facility open to the neighborhood.
The winning proposal “ENGAWA” defines the new Municipal Sports Complex of La Sagrera through sustainability, functionality and urban integration. The building adapts to the existing topography, arranging its main uses —swimming pools, padel courts and gym— on independent platforms to free up as much outdoor space as possible.
The volumes align with the street, creating an inner courtyard that becomes a new public square and opens the facility to the neighborhood. A ceramic base anchors the building to its surroundings, supporting a light, compact volume that houses the sports areas.
The main entrance is located at the highest point of the site, in a new public space connected to the Camp del Ferro sports complex, improving safety and access control. Circulation is intuitive, with a single vertical core handling both access and evacuation.
The façade is conceived as a double skin: an outer layer of vertical slats that filters natural light and an inner transparent enclosure that maximizes daylight. The project incorporates flexible, energy‑efficient solutions, achieving an A rating and near‑zero energy consumption.
