The Horta Provisional Market project solves the need to temporarily relocate the stalls of the historic market during its rehabilitation. It is located on a strategic site at the end of Parc de les Rieres, a meeting point between two major routes of urban and ecological growth.
The action is conceived in two phases. At present, a seven-meter-high modular wooden structure generates the interior space and supports the roof of the provisional market. The building prioritizes environmental comfort with natural lighting, a glazed perimeter facade and automated cross-ventilation using CO₂ sensors.
Looking to the future, the same structure is designed to be reused as an urban pergola, becoming a shadow and meeting space between Lisboa and Porto streets once the definitive market reopens.
The project stands out for its sustainability, flexibility and ability to transform a “non-place” into a new public space for the neighborhood.
